Detailed Narrative Description
of Project:
In Bangladesh, there are 14 registered brothels where approximately
5,063 sex workers are working. Sex workers do not originate
HIV/AIDS but they receive it from their clients and then
serve as a repository from whom other clients and their
other partners can become infected. Majority of the sex
buyer have never used condom, and very few even realized
they are at risk of exposure to HIV. We need to change the
existing behavior of the sex workers and their clients to
prevent HIV/AIDS transmission and infection.
Broad Goal:
The broad goal of the project is to create an environment
for the brothel based sex workers, their clients and others
linked to reduce risks of HIV/AIDS transmission.
Objectives:
To achieve the broad goal the objectives of the project
are as follows:
a) To crate positive attitude of the brothel based sex workers
and their clients to take preventive measures during sex
activity for preventing HIV/AIDS and work safely in their
present profession;
b) To reduce risk of HIV/AIDS and STD infection among brothel
sex workers and their clients;

Detailed Narrative Description
of Project:
It is known that poverty is a major cause of under nutrition
and ill health; it contributes to the spread of disease,
undermines the effectiveness of health services and slows
population control. Morbidity and disability among the poor
and disadvantaged groups lead to a vicious spiral of marginalization,
to their remaining in poverty, and in turn, to increased
ill health.
In Bangladesh, poverty is widely recognized as a multi-dimensional
problem involving income, consumption, nutrition, health,
education, housing, crisis-coping capacity, insecurity,
etc. Poverty refers to all forms of economic, social, and
psychological deprivation occurring among people lacking
sufficient resources for a minimum required level of living.
Poverty, along with other factors like inadequate information,
leading to poor health-related behavior, also underlies
a large part of the burden from tuberculosis, malaria, HIV/AIDS,
complications associated with pregnancy and delivery, and
childhood illnesses including acute respiratory infections,
measles, and diarrhea diseases.
Through this project, Health education is provided to the
community people and to the targeted group members through
health workers and field workers. It is especially targeted
to the women and children of the beneficiary households.
The organization has targeted to cover 250 household during
project period. GHARONI has been providing health related
information among the community people for raising awareness
on their rights that is indicated in PRSP. The main objective
of the project is to increase awareness about the health
related points in PRSP among the community people through
establishing a networking committee by all stakeholders
from the community and monitor the services providing by
the hospitals as well as aware community regarding their
health rights.

Detailed Narrative Description
of Project:
Gender-gaps still exist in every sphere of women's
lives. Development indicators show that in each and every
sphere, women are far behind men. It is observed that women
are unequal due to their 'dependent' socio-economic status,
lower education, less mobility and above all due to the
social, cultural and religious customs. Patriarchy still
controls all institutions of the society, the parliament,
military establishments, judiciary, education and benevolent
organizations etc.
The poor pregnant women are the most neglected members of
our society. Though they need rest, sympathy and considered
behavior from the family as well as from the society; at
that time, they face & suffer from different problems
due to unemployment and health condition. They need to take
good food for their coming baby. But they have limited scope
to take good food due to their poverty. Other family members
are not aware about the health & care of pregnant mother.
The project has initiated to provide the support for taking
good food during the pregnancy period and maternity period.
The main objective of the project is to improve the food
habit of the pregnant women and mother and take nutritious
food.

Detailed Narrative Description of Project:
Community participation can have a tremendous impact on
the effectiveness and sustainability of water supply and
sanitation programs. It can also help to minimize many of
the potential negative environmental impacts associated
with them.
In many cases, proper installation, use, and maintenance
of wells, hand pumps, and latrines depends upon the community
understanding how they work and viewing them as their property
and, hence, their responsibility. For this to occur, the
community must participate in the planning, site selection,
design, construction, and monitoring of the various facilities.
To accomplish this level of community participation, adequate
training in the proper construction, operation, and maintenance
of the various facilities should be provided and GHARONI
has been playing a significant role undertaking innovative
approaches to provide basic health and sanitation to the
community people. The main objective of the project is to
raise awareness on health and sanitation related issues
of the people of working area and establish self-reliant
health system for preventing diseases. |

Detailed Narrative Description
of Project:
Bangladesh Government completed a sample survey in the year
of 1982. It is identified from this survey that a total
of 0.7 million people are disabled in different form. The
disable people are the part of our society, so they have
the right to live in the society with respect. At present
some NGOs in Bangladesh are raising awareness among the
general mass on disable rights. But, it is also limited
in district headquarter level. So, the massages do not reach
to the remote areas of this district.
Most important subject is that the health service for the
disabled people is very limited. This service is available
in the divisional level, which is also limited scale. The
general hospitals in the upazila and district level have
no such health facilities that they can avail. The disabled
people need special care and treatment for overcoming the
disability. We need to create social awareness among all
people of the society to improve this present situation
of disable people. The project create the opportunity to
provide primary health care services and create mass awareness
for social rehabilitation.
The beneficiaries of the project will be 60 disable people
and 60 family members of the three selected upazilas. The
general mass of the project areas will also be the secondary
beneficiaries of the project. The project will cover –
general people from 3 upazilas of selected district.
The objectives of the project are:
• Make available the information about the disable
people of the project areas;
• Organize disable people and their guardian to inform
their roles and responsibility for disable;
• Create awareness among the mass people to increase
their sensitivity on disable people;
• Bring the disabled persons in mainstream development
process |

| Detailed
Narrative Description of Project:
The program is launched to make intensive use of land resources
available in the homestead. After studying (area and scope
of production enterprises) the homestead of individual member
family, a production plan is made and implemented with the
micro- credit support. In the homestead, the production
intensity is mainly increased by introducing the system
of year round vegetable cultivation, planting fruit and
timber yielding plants, through duck and poultry improvement
(by changing breed and increase in number) and by improving
the traditional crop seed storage devices. A total of 150
families in Netrakona district have developed their homestead
for vegetable cultivation under this project. It has been
observed that some of the families were able to raise their
income more than double of the earlier homestead income.
GHARONI generally works with those poorest of the poor families
who are practically untouched by the government agencies.
The sustainable cash earning of those have less people can
only be ensured by adopting low cost labor -intensive agricultural
practices. To achieve this goal the major activities of
the program include grow up (?) formation, credit disbursement
and demonstration of modern technologies. Increased production
of vegetables and in some cases fruits is given importance
as the families have limited land resources. To do so GHARONI
received fund from different development projects of Bangladesh
government and worked in the specified project areas.
